Committee Meeting Schedule 2010

Research Program
A Scientific Research program is undertaken by the Association into
improving the utilisation and performance of ash as an alternative to
its disposal in ash ponds or other landfills. The association is
continually looking for research opportunities which can contribute to
these objectives.
Research projects are normally carried out by collaborative agreement,
where the cost is shared between the association and other interested
parties. Since the formation of the Ash Development Association of
Australia, direct and in-direct funding has exceeded $4.0 million
dollars.
Projects initiated to date include:
Market research into consumer needs and perceptions regarding the
development of uses of coal ash, to select the most beneficial
scientific research projects.
Formulation
and durability of fly ash blended cement.
Fly ash/Geosynthetic Interaction.
Fly ash concrete to comply with RTA NSW specification for concrete in
bridges.
Fly ash concrete in marine environments - review.
Fly ash in flexible pavement structures.
Use of fly ash in pasture improvement.
Case study of fly ash concrete in MR situation at Tallowa Dam NSW.
Fly ash concrete subject to sulfate environment - long term tests in
accordance with new Australian Standards.
| Handling properties of fly ash.
| Properties of very fine fly ash.
Use of fly ash in re-cycled flexible road pavements.
Long term resistance of fly ash concrete to sulfate attack.
Leachate tests on Australian fly ashes - TCLP Test.
A case study at Munmorah Power Station and a major research project into
the use of high volumes of fly ash in road pavements. Survey of
Australian Regulations and Legislation with potential to impact on fly ash
utilisation.
Further research projects are being negotiated regarding soil
improvement, handling properties and submissions have been received for
research into waste fixation.
Information on the research program is available from the Association's
Technical Literature or by contacting the Administrator.
Promotional Program
The Association is regularly represented at industry conferences and
meetings where technical papers on ash utilisation and trade displays
are mounted. The Association's technical experts are also available to
present in house seminars to engineering design groups, technical
societies and conferences on the use of fly ash in concrete and other
applications.
Inquiries requesting participation in the promotional program should be
directed to the Administrator.
