Pavements

The construction of ultra-high volume FA pavements, containing more than 90% FA, is an appeal on both cost and environmental grounds. The term "pavement" is used to refer to the entire structure of the road, from foundations through to the top surface.

The major benefits demonstrated with the use of FA in pavements include:

• Increases pavement performance
• Is a technically viable alternative to conventional road building materials,
• May have cost advantages compared to natural road building materials for sites close to power stations

The use of large volumes of FA in road construction helps to conserve natural resources. This reduces the environmental impact that would otherwise be caused by mining these resources.
