Flinders Operations Update - Wednesday October 7th 2015

Alinta Energy today confirmed that its Flinders Operations will close on 31 March 2016, in line with previous guidance. Timing for this closure means that operational mining at Leigh Creek will cease on 17 November 2015 and the Augusta Power Stations plan to cease generation around 31 March 2016.

Alinta Energy CEO, Jeff Dimery said the company had communicated the closure to employees and key stakeholders.

“Our major focus continues to be on working closely to assist our people through this transition period,” Mr Dimery said.

“When we announced our intent to close Flinders Operations in June 2015, Alinta Energy committed over $3.5 million in funding to provide a suite of transitional support services to our people. The allocation of this funding has been split between retraining and reskilling assistance, financial advisory services, career counselling, wellbeing and human resource support, as well as Transition Centres and other job opportunity services.”

This funding is in addition to the $75 million of redundancy benefits and entitlement packages that will be distributed to employees across the Flinders business.

Alinta Energy will continue to work closely with the SA Government in order to achieve the best outcome for our people and their communities as the business transitions to closure.

Today’s confirmation will have no impact on our commitment to Alinta Energy’s residential and business customers.
